In addition, the area was inhabited; the necessary labor could be found in the nearby villages. By that time, the area had several communication routes, a postal dirt road, and the construction of a railroad had been completed.

It was decided to name the paper mill “Falcon” after the name of a nearby village; construction progressed successfully and by 1900 the factory began producing its first products.
By 1920, the area around the Sukhona River station consisted of several large enterprises that employed about 4 thousand people, which allowed the village of Sokolova to transform into a working village. The infrastructure of the village subsequently increased and expanded territorially, and by 1932 the working village was transformed into Sokol city.
The city's favorable location at the intersection of three transport arteries allows the city to develop and distribute its products throughout the country, attracting foreign investment.
The main transport arteries are railways, highways and river navigation.

General data and historical facts
The first mention of the village of Sokolovo on the site of the modern city dates back to 1615.
In 1897, a paper mill was founded near the village, named after the village Sokol. After a while, a workers’ settlement with the same name Sokol was built at the factory.
In 1926, the population of the workers' village was about 6 thousand people.
In March 1932, by decree of the country's authorities, the factory settlement received city status. The following villages were annexed to the city territory: Karpovo, Medvedevo-Pustoshnoye, Sokolovo, Sukhonsky village and Sukhona station.
